I

Literature as defined by the Meriam-Webster dictionary, is said to be a production of work that is typically capable of excellent form or expression THAT evokes AND stimulates universal interest OR a collaboration of works FROM a certain language, country or age AND it can include a wide range of subjects that is ALSO printed matter or as leaflets or circulars, what ever you prefer.

UMMM YEAHH...
ACCORDING TO THE MAJORITY OF STUDENTS IN THE USC UPSTATE COMPUTER LAB AS I TYPE THIS BLOG BELIEVE LITERATURE IS.. (TAKE NOTE OF THE CAPATALIZATION OF THIS EXPLANATION :-)) IS LITERATURE IS...
 STUFF LIKE SHAKESPEARE,
ANYTHING IN THIS LIBRARY,
HELL THIS 5 PAGE PAPER IM WRITING SHOULD BE LITERATURE
NEWSPAPERS
MY PLAYBOY MAGAZINES
THE CAROLINIAN
&& SOME OTHER FORMS OF LITERATURE IM SURE YOU CAN NOT SAY ONLINE...

Even he has a different definition of Literature....

I personally would like to believe and in no way am I inflicting my opinions of literature upon you, that my blog even though it  is not a production of work that is typically capable of excellent form or expression.. WAIT...

DO I  evoke AND stimulates universal interest??? (RHETORICAL QUESTION)

Is my blog a collaboration of works FROM a certain language, country and age

AND it DOES it include a wide range of subjects that is ALSO

able to be transferred AND understood??

WHY YES, YES IT DOES....

NO NEED FOR A CONCLUSION SENTENCE... YOU DRAW YOUR OWN. :-]

LONG LIVE LITERATURE!!!!

NOW THE REAL QUESTION IS??
OR THE ONE THATS GONNA HELP ME PASS HONORS ENGLISH 275 IF I ANSWER...

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING WORLD LITERATURE IN THE US TODAY?

The typical response from the average student would be… well there is no importance to studying world literature because for one, other places in the world are drastically different from the United States, and two, most of the novels, plays, and poems read throughout high school and college have not been applied to the “real world”…..

HOWEVER….

TAKE THE TIME TO REMEMBER YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD STORY….. OK THAT’S ENOUGH TIME..

MINES WAS IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFKzriYtEt8

THAT STORY TAUGHT ME THAT PEOPLE ARE INHERENTLY NEEDY, GREEDY, AND ALSO CHILDREN WILL DRIVE YOU UP A WALL. WE AS HUMANS CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH.

LITERATURE TEACHES.

Literature is like a universal language. Everybody is connected through some form of literature, which we have already established stem from everywhere. More importantly, literature around the world show that we are all common in custom, cultures, and principles. No idea is original. Don’t believe me?

Through literature, we acknowledge that places all over the world were conquered and in turn there are two different cultures present in society’s world wide. These two cultures consist of the native and the ruling. Literature helps us see the benefit of this, multilingual writing. Mahsweta Devi author of “The Breast-Giver” writes in Bengali, which is the language of the state of West Bengal in eastern India. When a work is translated into English for us, the author tend to get international recognition making us aware of the dilemmas and social problems a country is encountering. Literature also shows that the caste system is not subjected to one area of the world. Literature when it crosses borders, it mixes culture.

Literature such as “The Diary of a Madman” by Lu Zun and Franz Kafka’s, “The metamorphosis”, show us the power that society has on an individual. Zun shows us that the individual becomes what society sees him as but there is still the possibility for change. Kafka on the other hand, by turning his main character Gregor into a cockroach show us how society makes people suffer. Early literature use to present the individual as having to maintain order in society, one there was no more gods and oracles in writing. Then around Don Quixote’s release the individual was depicted as not being afraid to challenge society.

Themes like this make Literature universal so that everyone around the world can relate. Don’t you feel better knowing that the lady in China making the majority of your possessions have some of the same world views you do?

Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." - C.S Lewis, a British scholar and novelist.

Lauryn come back to us...

WHERE'S WALDO  LAURYN??
Lauryn I love you unconditionally because you have spiritually lifted me up into maturity through your soul, voice, and experiences as a strong black woman. & for that alone i can only say thank you Mrs. Hill. I pray that we will soon hear your voice again.....
Is she the making of an urban myth?

Part of Hills, "Hiatus" was because of displeasure with fame and the music industry.
I think Lauryn did what was right for herself and her family. She is still TOP DOG in my eyes..
She just aint a MAINSTREAM kinda chickk.

Rohan Marley (husband): "She writes music in the bathroom, on toilet paper, on the wall. She writes it in the mirror if the mirror smokes up. She writes constantly. This woman does not sleep".

Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill will appear on the same stage for separate performances during the Raggamuffin Music Festival, which will take place in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill will be co-headliners of the festival, which takes place at Rotorua International Stadium and also features headliners Shaggy, Julian Marley, Sly & Robbie, Sean Kingston and others.
